Accuracy and Range

Quite a bit of research has been done to improve the accuracy of the rubber bands, which led to a unique barrel design. There is what we call an “equalizing ridge” in the barrel, which the bands skip along when they are launched, and reduces variation in the trajectory.

Combining this with the Gatling Gun type firing mechanism, which indexes a “barrel” into position each time it fires, the Firewheel is inherently very accurate, but is limited by the quality of available ammo.

To overcome this, and utilize the inherent accuracy of the Firewheel, we are trying to develop our own range of precision bands.

The general purpose bands supplied with the Firewheel are reasonably accurate up to a range of about 3 metres (nominal 8 metre extreme range). From a range of about 1.5 metres your average fly doesn’t have much of a chance if there is a Firewheel around with a skilled user on the end of it, particularly if you use the rifle sights – the equalising ridge referred to above has a groove in it – you look through the split in the wheel, down the groove, and it is equivalent to looking through a hole drilled through the middle of a cartridge in a normal rifle – a bit like using telescopic sights – bit tricky to find your target, but is almost cheating when you do - imagine a recoilless machine gun with telescopic sights, and extreme rate of fire capability.
