As noted on the New Products page, the GITD Ammo has been many years in development, and the idea of being able to generate bright machinegun tracer fire at night with our Firewheel RBG has been a sort of holy grail for us “forever” it seems.
The problem we ran into was that to produce a glow of the intensity and duration we were after requires a VERY expensive pigment to be added to an already expensive base material.
They fully charge in only 5 to 10 seconds when held close to any bright light source, and if you stay in the dark with them they glow brightly for hours.
So these things are not cheap but you can look forward to reusing the bands many times, and if you are using them at night, you certainly should not lose them.
Our testing has indicated that if you are loading 7 bands each time, then you can look forward to the bands lasting an average of 176 loadings. So, with 3,520 shots in a 20-band pack, you can think of it as more of an investment than buying consumables.
It is not recommended that you load more than 8 bands (unless it is an “emergency” such as your buddies ganging up on you). The life of the bands reduces significantly to about 150 shots if you are consistently loading 10.
The bands are considerably more powerful than normal rubber bands, and you will find it hard on your hand anyway to load the full 10 bands unless you are wearing a glove.
The range of the bands is around 8 meters (26 feet) compared to only 6 meters (20 feet) for the normal rubber bands.
We also recommend that you prestretch the bands before loading them for the first time, and shake them up with a bit of talcum powder regularly.
The bands hold their tension much better than normal rubber bands, but because of this they will break if you leave them preloaded for prolonged periods. We recommend firing them within 10 minutes of loading.
Another significant advantage of these bands is that they do not relax (increase in size) with use like normal rubber bands, and maintain their performance over the life of the bands.
As per the GAT and Bunty Bands, the inside of the cardboard header contains the same original, and amusing targets to shoot at (above).
The bands can also be put to all sorts of non-Firewheel uses, and for example young women like to wear them as adornments (hair bands, etc) when going out to night clubs and the like.
You will see some interesting effects when you are using GITD Ammo, such as when you hit a surface such as a wall, it looks like there is molten metal trickling down the wall.
