The Company

Tasman Engineering Services Pty Ltd commenced trading in December, 1994, and has its head office in Gladstone, on the east coast of Australia, just below the Tropic of Capricorn, in the state of Queensland.

The manager, and designer, Paul Sundstrom (top centre in above photo) is an experienced professional mechanical engineer, and until recent years, most of his work involved the design of specialized equipment for the mining industry, some of which was exported to countries such as the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Columbia, and New Guinea.

As a father, he was concerned about the number of Australian youngsters that were suffering serious injury in the normal course of playing with home-made toys such as sling shots, bows and arrows, and the like. Although the community more or less accepted these injuries, as part of the normal hazards of growing up, he felt that it should be practical to reduce the incidence of them by coming up with something that gave the kids the same sense of satisfaction and amusement, without the associated risks .. and hence the Firewheel was born.

This provided an opportunity to, not only produce a fun toy, but one that is also a real engineered product, built from quality materials, with a decent little Owner's Manual and spare parts backup.

In December, 2004 Firewheel, Inc was incorporated in the United States, in the state of Tennessee, and runs a small distribution centre in Nashville, TN.

The Firewheel is fully manufactured in Australia. The photo above shows the Firewheel production crew, posing in the solvent-welding room, where the ABS sub-assemblies are produced.
